Abstract
The purpose of this undergraduate paper will be comparing work/life balance between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Statistics will be based around the United States of America because of their higher quality and availability. The statistics that we will be comparing will be the number/percentage of employed personnel in the three main industries (primary, secondary and tertiary); apart from those statistics we will be looking at the purchasing power of employed personnel in the various sectors and compare what kind of effect it had on the socio-economic standing between both centuries. Comparing various statistics we can discern that there has been a large transition between the workforce moving from the primary sector into the tertiary sector which brings in a much larger percentage of the gross domestic product in most developed countries. After comparing the statistics we will be analyzing the quality of workers rights and the complicity of the jobs in each industry. A large number of factors had an affect on the mental health of employees, the main ones we will be focusing on is the demand for increased production at the expense of the “working class” people as well as the development of new technologies and new means of communication and what kind of effect they had on the job market. Based on the analysis of all the factors we can conclude which elements had the greatest impact on the job market as well as which factors led to the sudden shift of employees within the industries. After choosing the topic for this undergraduate paper the world has been struck by the third biggest pandemic in history which changed the job market forever, from new possibilities of working from home for a company that is not even on the same continent to the discrimination of “essential workers” of the tertiary industry. As a conclusion to the paper the job market has drastically changed between the centuries, but the rights and needs of employees were not being adjusted which led to consequences that we are still dealing with today.
Abstract (croatian)
Svrha ovog rada je uspoređivanje poslovnog života između devetnaestog i dvadesetog stoljeća. Glavne statistike koje će se analizirati su iz Sjedinjenih Američkih Država radi kvalitetnijih te lakše dostupnih informacija. Statistike koje će se uspoređivati su broj/postotak zaposlenih u tri glavna sektora zaposlenja (primarni, sekundarni i tercijarni); osim tih statistika gledat će se i kupovna moć zaposlenih ljudi u različitim sektorima te usporediti kakav utjecaj je imala na socio-ekonomsko stajalište zaposlenih iz oba stoljeća. Usporedbom različitih statistika vidimo značajan prijelaz radnika iz primarnog sektora u tercijarni sektor koji dokazano pridonosi većini bruto domaćeg proizvoda naj razvijenijim državama. Uz usporedbu statistika gledat ćemo i kvalitetu radničkih prava te zahtjevnost samih poslova u svakoj industriji te raspored muškaraca i žena u različitim industrijama. Veliki broj faktora je utjecalo na mentalno zdravlje zaposlenika, oni glavni na koje ćemo se fokusirati su potražnja za povećanjem produkcije na štetu najnižeg reda zaposlenika, razvoj novih tehnologija i načina komunikacije te kakav je to utjecaj imalo na cijelo poslovno tržište. Temeljem analize svih tih faktora možemo donijeti zaključak koji elementi su najviše utjecali na razvoj poslovnog tržišta te ujedno i koji faktori su pridonijeli tako naglom prelasku zaposlenika. Nakon odabira teme završnog rada, svijet je bio pogođen trećom najvećom svjetskom pandemijom u povijesti, koja je igrom slučaja došla u periodu kraja najvećeg tehnološkog razvitka u povijesti. Pregledavat ćemo sve vrline i mane te kako je pandemija promijenila poslovno tržište zauvijek, od novih mogućnosti rada od doma za tvrtku koja nije na istom kontinentu do diskriminacije nad “bitnim radnicima'' tercijarne industrije. Zaključak izveden iz ovog rada je da se poslovno tržište naglo promijenilo između stoljeća, ali prava i potrebe zaposlenika nisu bile uvažene što je dovelo do raznih problema sa čijim posljedicama se i dan danas borimo.
