Rhetoric is the skill of a picturesque and convincing oral or written expression; the basic principle of writing rhetorical compositions or public speaking performances. In various areas of social life: judiciary, politics, education, culture, military, as well as everyday life situations, speaking skills are an essential prerequisite for success and progress. The history of rhetoric goes back to ancient times. Aristotle was the greatest contributor to the history of ancient rhetoric. Aristotle gave special significance to ways to be more convincing, thus giving the argument a special significance. Rhetoric is defined as a well-structured conversation, a clear and articulate exposition in which the ability to choose language forms and speech figures comes to light so that speech is acceptable to the audience. If we look at the Croatian public and politics, currently, the strongest political weapon is political speech. Croatian politicians often use the method of linking or combining most often two idioms that are semantic or structurally similar, and this method is also called contamination. Ivo Sanader is considered one of the best rhetors on the Croatian political scene. Although many affairs have been linked to him, his power of persuasion cannot be denied. A major war veterans’ protest on Split waterfront in February 2001, held in support of Mirko Norac, is remembered for the speech of the then chief of opposition, today's former prime minister condemned for corruption, Ivo Sanader.
