Within this paper, it is sociologically determined what religion is and what its social functions are. Furthermore, types of religious communities are described, which is secularization and civil religion. The topic of ideas and ideologies is also covered, and the majority of the paper is dedicated to the notion of faith and hope and what these two terms mean to people. Hope is based on logic, facts, and a desire for those known facts to lead to a positive outcome. Since a person never stops wanting, has an inner need for something new or better and always strives for a goal, the motivational cycle is continuous and repetitive. Every motivation begins with a desire or idea of a positive outcome of the goal we are striving for. Unlike hope, faith is more concerned with the spiritual life of man and its foundations derive from the imaginary. The presence of imagination in religious beliefs is inevitable and necessary. Religious belief stems from a belief in the imaginary and scientifically unconfirmed. Without the power of imagination, it would be incomprehensible to any believer to believe in something without form.
