The media is an integral part of our everyday lives. They are sources of information and entertainment and they also serve us as a communication channel. The development and popularization of each new media has increased the chance of controlling people through the said media. Media manipulation is becoming more common and almost always serves someone’s benefit. Some of the most common media manipulation techniques are fake news, disinformation, hidden advertising, censorship, spins, and pseudo-events. In order to not be manipulated by the media ourselves, it is important to understand the basics of the media, the tehniques of media manipulation and how to recognize them. The media is also an integral part of public relations in which they serve as a communication channel between an organization and its targeted public. Any public relations expert will always try to portray their institution in the best light and sometimes they will do so ina n unethical way. This leads us to the question of ethics in that communication and whether that communication is sometimes manipulative, especially when we talk about political communication in public relations.
