This paper will discuss the Radiological Information System (RIS) and the image archiving and communication system (PACS), which is used every day in radiological departments and wich significantly contributies to the quality of work. The radiological information system is a management system that analyzes and enables faster and easier access to information. It is important to point out that in the beginning of the introduction of work with both systems there were problems in mutual communication, but further development will certainly facilitate the work through all departments. Furthermore, the paper will discuss the importance of using medical images as a part of an electronic medical record, more precisely a patient's medical record. The advantages and functionalities of RIS will be presented. The main idea of which is to integrate through the system all the data processed on the patient from the moment the patient is received until the completion of the finished finding and the issued invoice. In integration with other systems, RIS provides complete functionality in the work of various departments, which is best shown by the image attachment in the paper. Devices with RIS and PACS systems communicate via DICOM protocol, which is primary used for manipulating and communicating medical image data and closely related general data. Through a pictorial presentation of the schedule of the RIS system on the example of the Visaris program, highlighted will be the importance of patient enrollment and the schedule as one of the key details that play a major role in the work of all departments. There will also be talk of a worksheet and a report that help RIS users in day-to-day operations such as workflow planning and billing. The last part of the paper will discuss the integrated radiological information system, a software system that is necessary for the management of data, information and work processes in the radiology department. Through this paper it will be demonstrated the importance of understanding and using information systems given the growing demand for medical services.
