The basis of this assingment is to show how important communication is when it comes to interpersonal relationships, but most of all, how much it can actually affect a person's mental state and relationships within the family. We will divide this paper into three parts: communication, mental disorders, and the impact of mental disorders on relationships within the family. In the first part of the paper, we will elaborate communication into several parts so that we can fully understand why is it so important in a human's life. We will learn what communication is based on, what it involves and what it can be, and we will encounter the concept of interpersonal communication competence and it's cognitive and behavioral skills that will bring us closer to their necessity, complexity and usefulness in everyday communication. We will realize that sometimes we cannot have complete control over interpersonal communication competence because it is affected by many factors, but most of all experience, exercise and self-monitoring that will lead to a persons positive relational goals. Following the communication, we will get an insight into several types of mental disorders that are current in the 21st century and we will describe each and list some important features that characterize them. Through the synergy of communication and mental disorders, we will try to understand and present by various examples the impact they have on each other and how much they intertwine even though people may not even be aware. Each of these sections is extensive enough to be written as a separate assingment, each individually, but in this paper we will try to combine them into one and present several solutions that could initially open the door to more complex topics and solve problems that increasingly arise within families with present mental disorders.
